Competitiveness of Romanian food industry is due to several factors, one of which is particularly important: quality control. Food safety and security in Romania is able to provide food for 80 million people which means a huge potential is estimated at ~ 50 million Euro (according to the Romanian authorities). Acquisition of the proposed research infrastructure will allow the possibility of thorough checks of food, at the request of producers, intermediaries or state agencies and will ultimately lead to an increase of consumer confidence in Romanian products. The existence of modern analytical equipment will also allow the evaluation of the influence of certain parameters (accidents, natural or processing) on food quality. Once completed the acquisitions, UPB will address the established methods and laboratories toward accreditation.
